Internships
Employers have found that hosting a LEAP intern has been a positive experience, and the impact on our students has been huge. We make introductions to a student or students that fit a company’s profile and ask providers to ideally co-create the internship with the student. All internships should be for at least 6 weeks and must pay at least the National Living Wage. Internship providers are encouraged to give an authentic experience and to provide an element of in-person activity for the student. Internships should provide personal development and growth opportunities, and providers should help students to reflect on the experience afterwards, including how to articulate this on their CV.
Could you help?
In 2024-25 we have a cohort of 21 students with a wide variety of career interests who will be looking for practical work experience and personal development opportunities. Mentoring
Every Pembroke student is encouraged to use the Pembroke Online Community to connect with alumni, find a mentor and build their networks. All LEAP cohort students are carefully matched with a mentor from our alumni or wider College community. LEAP mentors are asked to commit to support a student for 6 months and to meet with them for at least one hour per month. Guidance is given to both the mentor and mentee to help them focus on an area for improvement and make the most of the opportunity. Support
All of the LEAP cohort are invited to apply for a grant to either support their internship or and adventure. These are a unique and vital part of the programme and provide our students with invaluable experiences and opportunities to build their confidence.
Could you help?
