Ross interned with Cambridge Management Consulting for 6 weeks last summer. Cambridge MC was founded by Pembroke William Pitt Fellow Tim Passingham in 2015 and now operates globally.
During his internship, Ross was based in Lisbon, his home city. He was tasked with procuring clients for Cambridge MC and their new branch, Cambridge Connect, in the Iberia region. He also worked with a client named Orchest, a mobile connectivity solutions company operating in Latin America. “This meant I was able to utilise Portuguese daily when contacting companies, as well as dust off my Spanish too. I thoroughly enjoyed finding clients for these organisations and managed to contact 200+ throughout the internship.”
Upon completion of his internship, Ross was invited to attend Cambridge Tech Week in September 2024, where he represented Cambridge MC and spoke to potential clients.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Cambridge MC. The whole team was very welcoming from the beginning and has been a fantastic support network throughout the internship. I also want to extend a huge thank-you to Hannah and Kate from LEAP who originally put me in contact with Tim – without their support during the arduous internship-searching process I wouldn’t have been able to work with Cambridge MC!”

Genevieve spent 8 weeks interning at SEWA Bharat, a non-profit organisation in New Delhi that empowers women in informal employment. 🇮🇳
“Within my internship, my primary task was researching and understanding the role of female internal migrants that are migrating to large cities, such as Delhi, for employment opportunities. These workers often work in the informal sectors as domestic workers, garbage separators and store merchants, to give a few examples...
Using this research, I was able to construct a policy structure for India’s first migration policy.
During my time in Delhi, I was living in a home with 6 other Cambridge students that were placed in different internship positions across Delhi. I was able to develop my independence tremendously more that I had expected, as I oversaw my finances, care and safety in a country that I had never been to before and was foreign to me. As someone who is interested in international development, this was a great opportunity for me to understand what travelling and living away from home would be like.
I am eternally thankful for LEAP for supporting me on this adventure that has genuinely changed my life.”

Mo’s LEAP Adventure was an action-packed fortnight in Qatar, Malaysia and Indonesia 🇶🇦 🇲🇾 🇮🇩
In Doha, he visited Souq Waqif, an old Bedouin trading bazar, as well as the Qatar National Bank and Museum of Islamic Art. This provided important context for his dissertation on Islamic finance.
In Kuala Lumpur, Mo did an internship with the Malaysian government on Sustainable Aviation Fuel. He had the opportunity to sit in his first live Investment Committee meeting - “the holy grail for finance geeks” in Mo’s words!
After some sightseeing in KL, Mo travelled to the island of Lombok, Indonesia, where he continued his internship virtually. In his spare time, he explored the Gili Islands, went snorkelling, and swam in a 200 foot waterfall.
“Travelling alone for most of my journey, coming across several different languages, one of which I am now learning, and undertaking an internship in a completely different part of the world in a different culture are just a fraction of my adventure.”

Emma spent five weeks in Costa Rica on her LEAP adventure 🇨🇷 She really made the most of her time there, taking a Spanish language course, doing an internship at an art gallery, and spending the final fortnight hiking and hosteling around the country.
“My first solo trip was a jam packed five weeks full of new experiences and environments that vastly grew my confidence and independence. Relying on new language skills and having to quickly build relationships within a team, my ability to adapt to change and navigate different situations was fostered. I am very grateful for the opportunity LEAP provided for me to have experiences that both directly related to my degree and future career as well as those opportunities that were enriching in other ways.“

“This summer with the help of my LEAP internship grant I was able to travel to the Czech Republic to participate in an archaeological dig based in two different sites in Bohemia.
It was an amazing privilege to be part of a dig like this. It has also helped to further my experience in the field and it has allowed me to carry out my fieldwork in an area that I never thought was possible! It also tested my courage and self confidence and has helped me feel more confident and capable.”

Di’Mario used his LEAP Adventure Grant to fund a trip to Thailand where he undertook environmental conservation in Hua Hin 🇹🇭
“This was unlike any experience I have ever had because I seldom travel outside of the UK. In fact, this was only my second time outside of the UK and first time outside of Europe! From the food to the amazing hospitality, there are so many things I enjoyed about the two weeks that I spent there.
If you get the chance to do something out of your comfort zone, to travel or to volunteer, I highly recommend it.”
